Bomboy's Ice Cream - Havre de Grace, MD

Last weekend, my husband and I traveled home to see my family and attend a wedding.  Lovely weekend.  It was made even better by a stop at Bomboy's Homemade Ice Cream in Havre de Grace, MD.  Located in a small town situated on the Susquehanna River, Bomboy's has been in business since 1978, making homemade chocolates from family recipes for local and far-away candy lovers.  More recently, the family decided to expand their business by making homemade ice cream and opened up an ice cream parlor across the street from their candy store.  For some reason, I have never made a visit to this ice cream shop even though it is located only 20 minutes from my hometown!  I decided that it was about time for a visit!

Bomboy's offers several traditional and seasonal flavors.  The ice has a very dense and creamy texture.  The portions are quite generous and the price is very reasonable (I paid $15 for five ice creams...not all for me).  I chose the Duck, Duck, Goose flavor - Caramel ice cream with caramel swirl and peanut butter chocolate candy (I'm convinced that they use their own candy in their ice cream...best part).  The ice cream had a strong caramel flavor but lacked some of the saltiness that I like to pair with caramel.  After getting through half the scoop, the ice cream became very sweet, and paired with the heavy consistency of the ice cream, it made it very hard to finish.  My husband ordered the Mint Cookie ice cream which he thoroughly enjoyed and finish to the last spoonful.

I will definitely return to Bomboy's the next time I visit Havre de Grace...but I think I may try a flavor that isn't so sweet.  If you are traveling along I-95, Bomboy's is a very easy place to get to and would be a great stop on any road trip.
