Chocolate Stout Float

I am extremely excited to share my recipe with you this week, for several reasons.  First, I love floats.  Second, I made a float using two of my favorite things - beer and chocolate.  Cream milk stout poured over a scoop of chocolate stout sorbet rimmed with chocolate beer sauce.  Oh yes.  And third, I get to share my first Scoop Adventures Video!

Chocolate Shell

As a young child, some of my favorite ice cream experiences involved soft-serve ice cream.  Fluffy white and brown swirls atop crunchy sugar cones, covered in chocolate jimmies (those are sprinkles for the rest of you non-Pennsylvania folk).  Every once and a while I was lucky enough to eat a chocolate-dipped swirl cone.  I watched wide-eyed as the pimply teenager behind the counter slowly dipped my ice cream in dark creamy chocolate that would harden as soon as it hit the cone.  Oh how I looked forward to those cones.

Chocolate Orange Ice Cream

Have you ever taken notice of how your memory works?  It is quite obvious for most people that pictures or visual cues can spark memories.  But I always find it amazing and startling when a smell or taste starts a cascade of memories in my mind.  Memories are another reason that I love food and experimenting with flavors, because I never know what memory I might spark in myself or others.

Nutella Ice Cream

One of my favorite things about making ice cream is taking requests.  There are several requested ice cream flavors in the blog queue, including today's flavor.  A friend from work requested that I make a chocolate hazelnut ice cream that taste like Nutella. I got on it right away.
