Some of my favorite inspirations for ice cream flavors are other desserts. Cakes, cookies, pies - they all make great ice cream flavors. While seeking ideas for new flavors, a friend requested that I make a gingerbread ice cream. As you know I love filling requests so I got to work.
I have experienced several firsts in my kitchen this week, two of which are related to this week's ice cream recipe. I made homemade marshmallows for the first time and bought/used a kitchen torch for the first time (to toast said marshmallows). How did I live without either of these things in my life?

More pumpkin? Yes. I have several pumpkin recipes on this site. I just can't help it. Pumpkin is so tasty. Sweet and starchy and beautifully colored. I always succumb to the pumpkin spice madness around this time of year. Pumpkin pie will be in order as well as pumpkin bread or cake. Recently I used pumpkin in a sauce for pizza, SO good.

Cinnamon, cranberries, and walnuts. What do those ingredients bring to mind? Fall. I had several inspirations for my scoop this week. The first inspiration was my parents. They were coming to town and I asked what flavor ice cream they would like. As usual, they provided no specific requests but listed a few ingredients they like, namely fruits and nuts. Then I remembered a scoop I once tried at Bloom's Broom Dairy back home - Cranberry Walnut. I remembered that the scoop reminded me of Fall, my third inspiration.
