Cinnamon Honey Vanilla Ice Cream

Life in New Orleans has been pretty laid back the last couple of weeks.  I think it is primarily due to the heat.  The pace of life in New Orleans is already as slow as molasses, but add heat and humidity on top of it and the pace slows to a near halt.

Blueberry Yogurt Popsicles

People keep asking me about the weather in New Orleans.  Its hot.  H-O-T....hot.  And it doesn't change.  All summer long, temperatures range from 85 to 95 degrees F with a ridiculous amount of humidity.  It doesn't get cool at night.  It stays hot.  Get the picture?  Luckily the fall is fast approaching and the temperature should start dropping a bit by October. Fall is my favorite season and I am very much looking forward to it.

Lavender Honey Ice Cream

Lavender is one of my favorite flowers.  The scent is calming and soothing, sweet and gentle.  A few years ago I had the opportunity to tour a lavender farm in Maui and it was an enlightening and relaxing experience.

The Joy of Meyer Lemons

This past weekend, I finally remembered to stop by a CSA-type market in New Orleans called Hollygrove Market & Farm.  I have been meaning to check out this place for several weeks because I really prefer to support local farms and buy local produce. Every Saturday, Hollygrove market sells a pre-selected box of fresh produce supplied by several local farms and for a mere $25.  What a deal!  I bought the box and was overwhelmed by the selection of winter produce: baby white turnips, fresh mushrooms, cauliflower, cabbage, jasmine rice, green onions, cilantro, tomatoes, navel and small oranges, and grapefruits.
