Frozen Pear French 75

french 75 sorbet cocktail

To be honest, I am not much of a cocktail drinker.  I prefer a pint of beer or glass of wine over a cocktail.  Despite my love of all things dessert, I usually do not enjoy sweet beverages, and most of my early exposure to cocktails was just that, sweet and sugary.  Since moving to New Orleans, and with the boom of the art of the cocktail, I have learned to better appreciate these liquor concoctions.  My preference is gin (gin o’clock anyone?), but every once in a while I enjoy a champagne cocktail.

The French 75 is a classic champagne cocktail.  The main ingredients are champagne (obviously), simple syrup or superfine sugar, lemon juice, and gin or brandy.  My research on the cocktail suggets that the classic French 75 is made with gin, however people in New Orleans appear to prefer their French 75 cocktails made with cognac or brandy.  My twist on this cocktail replaces the sugar with a scoop of Pear Champagne Sorbet.  I had brandy on hand so I decided to give it a try.  Bubbly, slighty sweet, with a hint of fruit.  I may need to try it with gin, but I would definitely make this version again.  Enjoy!
