After hearing some good things about this product on Twitter, I decided to pick up a pint. Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss is a coconut milk-based ice cream, which makes it gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. I was excited to try this ice cream for two reasons: 1) I have never eaten ice cream made from coconut milk and I think it is an intriguing idea, and 2) My mom cannot eat gluten and she is sensitive to dairy, so I wanted to find her a dessert she could enjoy.
Several flavors were offered at my local Whole Foods, including Naked Coconut, Dark Chocolate, Mint Galactica, Cappuccino, and Cherry Amaretto. I couldn’t decide, so my husband picked out the Cherry Amaretto. We took it home and dug in right away. The coconut milk gives this ice cream a smooth, milky texture with an excellent silky mouth feel. The flavor is great and the ice cream has just the right amount of sweetness (it is sweetened with agave syrup). Given this was my first time trying coconut milk ice cream, I was quite impressed! Even though I do not have any food allergies myself, I would definitely buy this ice cream again.
When I visited home for Thanksgiving I bought my mom a pint of the Mint Galactica flavor (she loves mint). With its small bits of dark chocolate and strong mint flavor, my mom loved the taste. Placed on top of a gluten-free brownie I had baked, she was in heaven! Thanks, Coconut Bliss, for making my mom happy:).
